About the County Bridge Inspection/Inventory Data

The Data
The data shown on the website is continuously updated. That means when new or updated data is recieved from a county and entered in to the master compiliation file, all of the affected internet files are also updated, usually in less than five (5) minutes. Because of that, each page displays the date it was created like this: This page created: 11/12/2002. This date has nothing to do with data or when it was collected/compiled. The date when the data was collected/compiled is the Date of Last Inspection or Inspection Date.

Inspection Information Forms
When a County's Bridge Inventory is compiled for each county at the end of the normal inspection cycle by the County Engineer, four (4) forms are generated detailing structures that need maintenance and/or immediate attention (including closure). These forms are the:

The official forms are generated by the County Engineers and are provided directly to the counties' Boards of Supervisors at the end of each inspection cycle. The on-line forms are re-generated whenever a change to the county's data is entered into the master compiliation file.

Inspection Reports
There are two types of pre-formatted reports available for individual county bridge data records: Annotated and Comprehensive. These two reports detail important information, obtained from the National Bridge Inspection and Inventory database, but do so using different levels of detail and complexity.

The Annotated (Supervisor) Report was designed to present the most pertinant information in a easy-to-read and understand format for the county's Boards of Supervisors.

The Comprehensive Report lists all of the National Bridge Inspection and Inventory data collected on a particular structure. The data presented is in the NBISS Code format. The data items not numbered are not included in the NBISS reporting requirements but are collected by the County Engineer to assist the county in completely assessing the condition and repair/replacement priorities. The current NBISS Bridge Inventory Coding Guide can be downloaded here: mtguide.pdf 779k [FHWA link]
